María Valenzuela studied law at Universidad de Chile. She conducted her professional practice at Chile’s Ministry of Justice Human Rights Office, where she specialized in migrants protection. She later cofounder an NGO aimed at the legal protection of undocumented migrants in Chile and conducted her thesis on undocumented migrant women’s right to health. Her work has been awarded by the Chilean Foundation for the Overcoming of Poverty and the Chilean Constitutional Tribunal. She completed the M.A. Human Rights in 2020 offered by the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. In her Ph.D. project, supervised by Prof. Dr. Laura Clérico and funded by DAAD and the Chilean government, María Valenzuela compares the human rights protection of the elderly in Latin American, European, and African regional systems. Her main research interests are inequality analysis, human rights protection, and health law.
