Geneva Excursion 2024: A Transformative Experience for FAU Human Rights Students
From March 24 to 28, 2024, students of the FAU M.A. in Human Rights program embarked on an enriching trip to Geneva, a global center for human rights. The excursion provided an invaluable opportunity to witness human rights work in action and engage directly with key international organizations.
Highlights included attending the 55th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, where students observed debates on critical global issues like the situation in Palestinian territories. Meetings with prominent organizations such as the UNHCR, ICRC, and OHCHR offered firsthand insights into refugee protection, humanitarian law, and civic space.
Students also engaged with experts, including Marc Limon from the Universal Rights Group and Diego Costa Fernandes from UNEP, expanding their understanding of current human rights challenges. Networking with leaders in the field, such as UNICEF’s Erik Nyman, further enriched the experience.
This immersive excursion connected classroom learning with real-world advocacy, preparing FAU students to work in the field of human rights.
