This year seventeen students of the Human Rights Master’s went on a two day excursion to visit Berlin. The students met with Markus Löning, Germany’s former human rights commissioner; Wolfgang Büttner, Associate Director of Human Rights Watch Germany; Miriam Saage-Maaß, Vice Legal Director and Program Director of the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights; Prof. Dr. Beate Rudolf, Director of the German Institute for Human Rights; Selmin Çalışkan, Director of Institutional Relations at Open Society Foundation; and Vanessa Prinz, Deputy Head of Human Rights at the German Federal Foreign office.
The group enjoyed tours of Checkpoint Charlie, the Jewish Museum of Berlin, and the Berlin Wall memorial, led by the program’s Prof. Dr. Katrin Kinzelbach. The students learned about practical human rights work and prospective career paths while also experiencing Berlin’s rich history.
