The M.A. Human Rights programme was very fortunate to welcome H.E. Dr Abdallah Saleh Possi, the Tanzanian Ambassador to Germany and Austria, for a discussion with our students.
Dr Possi spoke about his human rights work as an ambassador and the challenges to human rights diplomacy. He emphasised the role of education and poverty alleviation. Afterwards our students engaged Dr Possi in a lively discussion on, inter alia, how to reconcile human rights activism and a government job, challenges concerning the allocation of funds in human rights work, particularly with regards to economic, social and cultural rights, and the role of international cooperation. Since Dr Possi wrote his doctorate thesis—under the supervision of Prof. Heiner Bielefeldt at FAU—in the area of rights of persons with disabilities, students also took the opportunity to discuss these rights in various contexts, particularly with relation to albinism.
We are grateful to Dr Possi for taking the time to meet with our students!
