The symposium on gender in peacekeeping and transitional justice on 4 May 2018 was met with a lot of interest from students of the MA programme and other degree courses at the university. The speakers questioned hegemonic approaches to these processes and engaged in animated discussions with the audience. Gina Heathcote (SOAS London) opened with a feminist critique of the UN Security Council Resolutions on women, peace and security. The three case studies presented by Silke Studzinsky (Lawyer), Khanyisela Moyo (Ulster University) and Sari Kouvo (University of Gothenburg) gave practical examples and insights from the contexts of Cambodia, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan respectively.
