From March 20th to 23rd, the students of the M.A. Human Rights had the opportunity to visit Strasbourg and get first-hand insights into the protection and promotion of human rights at the Council of Europe (CoE). The group met with representatives of the European Committee of Social Rights, the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination of the CoE’s Parliamentary Assembly, the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Children’s Rights Division. In addition, they attended a hearing at the European Court of Human Rights and learned about the possibility for NGO involvement in a meeting with the founders of the Advocacy Centre on Council of Europe Standards (ACCESS). This intensive schedule allowed for a diverse array of information and discussions on the different CoE mechanisms and engagements.
